What the rule fixes, and what it leaves to the family
The rule fixes the day: the one whose moonrise falls inside the Chaturthi. The fast is kept from sunrise (7:22 am) until the Moon is seen (7:35 pm). The rule gives no puja muhurat, so none is printed here; families usually hold the katha and puja in the evening, after sunset at 5:57 pm, and offer water to the Moon when it rises. Sargi, where it is the custom, is eaten before sunrise.
