What the site keeps
Nothing is stored in your browser: the site sets no cookies and uses no browser storage.
To count visits, the server makes a short code for each visit from a browser: the day's date, your internet address and your browser's identifying text, passed through a one-way function (SHA-256), of which the first eight characters are kept. The code changes every day. The site keeps, for each day, how many requests each code made, and no address or browser text alongside it. The code is a counting device, not a secret: anyone who already knew your address and browser text could work out the same code.
The site also keeps daily totals of which kind of page was read (a day page, a festival page, the home page) and which kind of site sent a visitor there, such as a search engine or a messaging app. For requests that do not come from a recognised browser, such as search engines' crawlers, it keeps the identifying text they send. These daily records are kept on the site's servers with no set expiry date.
A place you look up
When you look up a place by name or by its coordinates, they are used to work out that page and are not written to the site's logs.
The host
The site is served by Cloudflare, which keeps its own operational records of requests under its own privacy policy.
