Yajur Upakarma 2026: 27 or 28 August

Yajur Upakarma 2026 is on 27 August by the general full-moon rule. By the separate clause for Taittiriyas, it falls on 28 August.

Yajur Upakarma is associated with the Shravana full moon. When purnima spans parts of two civil days, the criterion used to choose a day matters.

The general rule

The South Indian rule requires purnima to be current for more than twelve ghatikas. Applied to 2026, it gives 27 August.

The Taittiriya clause

A separate condition applies to Taittiriyas when purnima begins after the first day's sunrise and extends for a specified duration after the second day's sunrise. Applied to 2026, that clause gives 28 August.
